The Justice League movie is moving forward. Warner Bros. is pushing forward on the project featuring Earth's greatest heroes. And it is more or less officially known which characters will be in the film. Warner Bros. is moving ahead "aggressively" with the cinema-adaptation of the Justice League of America, Variety reports today. George Miller of "Happy Feet" fame is attached to the project as a director and even the sequel to "Superman Returns" had to step down to make the JLA-film the studio's top priority. Warner Bros. needs a "superhero tentpole" for 2009, as Variety mentions. In the film, after a script by Kieran and Michele Mulroney, the JLA, supposedly composed of none other than Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and Aquaman fights some threat of epic proportions. The movie itself still is in the early stages of casting and it is not known who will play who, however several sources seem to agree that Christian Bale - Batman in "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight" - and Brandon Routh - Superman in "Superman Returns" are not going to appear in the movie. Christopher Nolan, head of the Batman Movies at Warner Bros. would like to see Warner Bros. wait with the project until he's finished the Batman projects in development and Christian Bale himself expressed that he feels uneasy about the JLA-film. To work around the lack of actors that are associated with two of three of DC's flagship heroes, the studio has thought about making the film a CGI-animated feature, although all indications point towards the film being a Special-Effects-Driven live action movie. Due to the complexity of the project, both in script and casting, even the people working on the project are holding their breath until production is finally greenlit. "They're working very hard to get it to happen," said one party close to the project. "But there are so many characters, it's complicated." The JLA movie could be a great opportunity on films featuring the Flash and Wonder Woman, both of which are in various stages of development. It appears DC just can't get their movies, if they don't have Nolan and Bale in it, right. They are working on a billion different heroes to be adapted to the big screen and sooner or later, they bump into smaller or bigger problems that make the project freeze. Or they apparently just forget about it. And if not Bale, who will play Batman? Bale has practically become Batman. Also, while Routh might not be the best actor out there, he does look the part, and "Superman Returns" suffered most from its clunky script. Nonetheless, if this movie gets made, it will most likely be really nice to look at.
